The past five days have been exceptionally fine for sailing south, with good winds and favorable tides and fantastic weather. We now find ourselves at City Island anticipating an early morning departure for points south. We've managed to make significant progress and solve (we hope) most of our mechanical issues. The marina last night in New Haven - the Oyster Point Marina - was a nice surprise: intimate, and with a great restaurant.
Favorable conditions have enabled us to settle into a nice routine of watches, home school lessons for Amelia in the morning and meals underway. Tonight, in a flight of culinary ambition, we actually baked a cake to celebrate Amelia's birthday tomorrow.

Hi Dave, Carole and Amelia. Loise is in bed (it's almost midnight on Tues)and I have all night to be up for my "day off". Can't get off the night schedule when I only have 35 hours off. I haven't checked lately on your progress so thought this was a good time to catch up. I will make sure Loise knows how to get to your site and she can get messages off to you, too. My night shift schedule for the refueling outage appears to have no end in site. It was originally scheduled for 35 days but we are 5 days behind. The original schedule had us done around the 14th of Oct but now it looks like the 21st is more likely. I work 5 days on (6 PM until 7 AM) and 1 day (er, night) off. Sheila and the boys are coming the weekend of the 21st. Danny is flying out on the 18th and will drive back with Sheila and the boys on the 20th or 21st. Eric has business on the "left" coast and then will fly to MI and drive back to New York with Sheila and the boys. With my schedule and Loise back in school and me with only one day (sorry, night) off, we see each other only about an hour every 6 days. Sure does cut down on the number of "disagreements" that can crop up. Glad to hear things seem to be settling in for you. I will read with interest your updates. Well, I hear the washer buzzing, a sure sign that someones laundry needs tending to. Oh, did I mention that Loise figured I needed something to do while I was up all night, so she saved HER laundry for me to do as well as my own? Isn't she nice, thinking of me like that? And one time she left all the instructions I needed to bake chocolate chip cookies so they would be ready for her in the morning. Oh, yea, and not too much mayo, please, on the sandwich for her lunch! I sure am the lucky guy!! So, the buzzing sound was more than likely HER laundry. Better get the iron warmed up, those shirts aren't going to iron themselves. I need a vacation!!

Great to hear from you. I have been checking your blog space 2 or 3 times a day for an update. (No pressure, I realize you can't update every day, but you better try!) "... hairy moments Cape Cod Canal ..." sounds interesting. Isn't it amayzing how you can go from 4,000 sq. ft. to 200 sq. ft. and do quite fine. Looks like the great weather is going to continue. Sounds like you will be going through NYC soon. That will be exciting. Look forward to hearing about your visit to the Big City. We are actively looking for a new (used) boat. Two Sabre 425's are in RI and have everything but one has a wing keel and the other has a center board and I think I really would prefer a standard keel. 50/50 chance we will find what we are looking for for next summer. Dave, you would be proud of me, I got into the office before 9:30 am today! We miss you. Look forward to your next update.
